BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The day after the Eureka women's basketball team nearly pulled off an impressive comeback win in its season opener against Greenville, the Red Devils have been picked to finish sixth in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The poll, which was conducted by the league women's basketball coaches, was released to the public on Thursday afternoon, and had EC tallying the sixth-most votes with 30.
Webster was voted No. 1 with 56 points and seven first-place votes. Spalding followed with 44 points and one first-place vote. Greenville was close behind for third with 31 points, then Fontbonne (38) and Westminster (35).
Blackburn (19) and Iowa Wesleyan (17) rounded out the poll.
The Red Devils only return three players who played on last year's squad, including SLIAC Watch List honoree Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington), Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal) and Marissa Murphy (Canton, Ill./Canton).
They also welcomed a slew of newcomers who made an immediate impact in EC's season opener, including Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord), Alaina Vance (Camp Point, Ill./Central) and Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County).
