Eureka Falls to Illinois College in Doubleheader

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka baseball team was defeated by Illinois College in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Red Devils struggled early in both games, falling 14-3 in Game 1 and 13-4 in Game 2.

GAME 1 – Eureka 3, Illinois College 14

The Red Devils were shut down by Illinois College in the opener, losing 14-3. Illinois College struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning before erupting for 11 runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run homer. Eureka responded with three runs in the sixth, with contributions from Nickolas Cartmill (Fort Worth, Texas/Burleson), Jon Leon Guerrero (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak), and Gabe Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington), but the game ended with the Blueboys holding a commanding lead.

GAME NOTES

  • Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) went 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Nickolas Cartmill added a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.
  • Noah Company (Le Roy, Ill./Le Roy) struck out six over three innings.

GAME 2 – Eureka 4, Illinois College 13

Game 2 saw a similar outcome, with Illinois College dominating in a 13-4 victory. Eureka jumped to an early lead in the first inning, but Illinois College responded with 10 runs in the bottom half. Despite a solid effort at the plate by Mike Dunne, the Red Devils couldn't recover, and the game ended with the Blueboys securing the doubleheader sweep.

  • Mike Dunne went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
  • Brandt King (Rockford, Ill./Stillman Valley) walked twice, stole a base, and scored two runs.
  • Sheldon Geuvens (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) struck out four over 2.2 innings of relief.
