Eureka Drops Game 1; Game 2 Suspended vs. MUW

EUREKA, Ill. – Despite a strong offensive showing, the Eureka baseball team dropped Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against MUW at Henry Sand Field. The second game was suspended due to darkness and will resume Sunday.

GAME 1 – MUW 15, Eureka 7

MUW pulled away late in a high-scoring affair, posting four runs in the ninth to seal a 15-7 win over the Red Devils.

After falling behind 3-0 early, Eureka answered in the third with a pair of runs. Joshua Frenden (New Port Richey, Fla./River Ridge) knocked in the first with a single through the right side, and Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Conor Fitzpatrick (North Barrington, Ill./Barrington).

MUW added two more in the fourth, but Eureka came right back. Jon Leon Guerrero (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) singled to right center, driving in two and tying the game at 5-5.

The Red Devils continued to battle, getting a sacrifice fly from Brandt King (Rockford, Ill./Stillman Valley) in the seventh and an RBI groundout by Fitzpatrick in the eighth, but MUW's bats stayed hot, and a four-run ninth inning put the game out of reach.
