Red Devils Fall on the Road at Division I SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka men's basketball team travelled to Division I SIU Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon, falling 97-54 to the Cougars.

SIUE scored first before Andrew Coker (Washington, Ill./Washington) tied the game at 2-2. After the Cougars opened a 7-2 lead, Micah Bruer (Washington, Ill./Washington) knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 7-5. SIUE extended its advantage to 9-5, but back-to-back triples from Jaxson Provost (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and Ben Carter (Morton, Ill./Morton) gave Eureka its first lead of the afternoon at 11-9.

Provost added two free throws to push the Red Devils' advantage to 13-9, Eureka's largest lead of the game. After SIUE trimmed the margin to 13-11, Max Richardson (LaHarpe, Ill./Illini West) connected on a jumper to restore a four-point cushion with 11:39 remaining in the first half. The Cougars responded by tying the game at 15-15 before a jumper from Jonah Lauff (Pana, Ill./Pana) briefly put Eureka back in front at 17-15.

From there, SIUE seized control, using a 17-0 run to build a 32-17 lead and continuing its momentum into the break. The Cougars closed the half on a 27-2 surge to take a 42-19 advantage into halftime.

SIUE scored the first six points of the second half to extend the lead to 48-19 before Provost ended the run with a three-pointer. The Cougars answered again with a 12-0 run to push the margin to 60-22 and maintained control the rest of the way to secure the 97-54 win.

Provost led Eureka with 12 points, while Lauff added nine points. Richardson finished with six points, and Bruer and Carter chipped in three apiece. Blake Logsdon (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View) tallied five points off the bench for the Red Devils.

UP NEXT

Eureka returns home to host Rockford on Monday at 3 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Nov. 29 but was postponed due to severe weather.
