Eureka Drops Resumed Contest to MUW

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's basketball team resumed its contest against MUW on Friday afternoon after Thursday night's game was suspended due to a citywide power outage. The Red Devils battled through the unusual circumstances but ultimately fell 99-67. Eureka will see the Owls again in February with a chance to even the series.

MUW opened the scoring column with a jumper from sophomore forward, Tray Huguley, who immediately set the tone for this game. Eureka answered with early threes from Ben Carter (Morton, Ill./Morton), but MUW's offense quickly found its rhythm. A 9-0 run fueled by Huguley, Devin McCaine, and Tyler Shephard pushed the Owls ahead 13-6, and they never trailed again.

Turnovers and transition scoring for MUW widened the gap, with Trent Walker arranging the team's attack and Huguley scoring at ease in the paint. By the midpoint of the half, Huguley was already in double figures, and MUW's lead stretched into double digits.

Coming into the second half, Eureka's offense improved. Jaxon Provost (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) continued attacking, Damuzha Moore (Champaign, Ill./Urbana) added 12 points, and Jacob Gonzalez (Los Angeles, Calif./Chatsworth Charter) provided a boost off the bench. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, MUW's interior scoring never slowed down. Despite their roster of only nine players, the Owls pushed the lead to as many as 35 and outscored Eureka 50-39 in the second half.

Eureka was led by their main offensive scorer, Provost, who finished the game with 18 points, three steals, and three triples to pace the Red Devils' offense. Carter added 11 points and seven rebounds, providing early scoring and steady work on the glass, while Moore chipped in 12 points with strong drives in the second half. Off the bench, Gonzalez delivered an efficient six points and helped spark instances of great ball movement for Eureka.
