Eureka Falls 84-66 at Webster
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka men's basketball team battled through a tough road matchup against Webster on Wednesday night, where early turnovers and second chance points allowed Webster to finish with an 84-66 win.
Webster set the tone early with defensive pressure and activity on the glass, forcing multiple Eureka turnovers that turned into quick points. Sebastian Reed was aggressive attacking the rim, scoring several early baskets, while Adam Painter made an immediate impact with a dunk off a turnover and strong rebounding. Eureka briefly answered with interior scoring from Jacob Gonzalez (Los Angeles, Calif./Chatsworth Charter) and steady effort on the boards, but Webster's transition offense and second chance opportunities allowed the Gorloks to steadily pull away and take a 36-24 lead into the halftime break.
Coming out of the break, Webster seized full control with a decisive scoring run fueled by perimeter shooting and fast breaks. Charles Nelson knocked down timely threes and finished in transition, while Jemard Sykes II added back-to-back triples to push the lead beyond 20. Reed continued his efficient scoring inside, and Painter remained a steady presence around the rim. Eureka found some rhythm with outside shooting from Micah Bruer (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) and a pair of baskets from Damuzha Moore (Champaign, Ill./Urbana), but Webster's balance on offense and pressure defense kept the margin firmly in hand.
After a difficult start to the second half, Eureka found its footing, using transition opportunities to get baskets from Dylan Logsdon (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View) and a fast-break three by Joel Ewald (Roscommon, Mich./Roscommon) to momentarily cut into the deficit. Webster responded calmly, leaning on inside touches and offensive rebounds, with Dallas Harding-Fair finishing in the paint and Reed continuing to score on second chances. Each Eureka push was met with an answer, as Webster's execution prevented any sustained momentum shift.
With a comfortable lead, Webster closed out the game by spreading minutes and continuing to capitalize on extra possessions. Nbaye Thiam delivered key put-backs and free throws, and Nelson punctuated the night with a fast-break dunk that underscored Webster's control. Eureka's bench provided a late spark behind Zachy Qader (Chicago, Ill./Northtown Academy) and Santino Ruma (Birmingham, Mich./IMG Academy), who combined for several late buckets, but the outcome was no longer in doubt as Webster secured the 84-66 victory.
Eureka was paced statistically by Bruer with 10 points, while Moore added 7 points and Ewald chipped in 6. Dylan Logsdon contributed 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Ruma finished with 7 points off the bench, while Qader added eight.
