Thornton Repeats as SLIAC Hitter of the Week

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka's Alayla Thornton (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the second week in a row.

Thornton delivered another exceptional week at the plate, beginning with a SLIAC doubleheader sweep at Principia on Tuesday. The East Peoria product went 5-for-7 across both games, including a double. In Game 1, Thornton recorded a 2-for-4 line and crossed the plate twice in a 7-5 victory. Game 2 featured a perfect 3-for-3 performance with a double, a walk, and a run scored.

Saturday's nonconference doubleheader at Monmouth added to the big week, as Thornton went 5-for-7 once again, with three doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. Game 1 included a 2-for-4 showing with a double, an RBI, and a run. Game 2 brought another 3-for-3 effort with two doubles and one run scored.

Thornton and Eureka return to SLIAC action on Wednesday, April 9, hosting Lyon in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
