Eureka Drops Two on the Road Against Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka softball team made the trip to Fontbonne for a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, where the Red Devils fell by scores of 15-0 and 9-0.

GAME 1 – Fontbonne 15, Eureka 0 (5 Innings)

Fontbonne set the tone early in Game 1, putting up a four-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Carrow. Eureka managed one hit in the opening frame but couldn't push a run across.

The Griffins stayed hot in the third, adding four more runs behind contributions from Paez and Carrow. Eureka continued to find base runners but couldn't bring anyone home.

Fontbonne delivered the knockout blow in the fourth inning, erupting for seven runs, fueled by an RBI double from Alonzo and consistent hitting throughout the lineup to stretch the lead to 15-0.

GAME NOTES

  • Chloe Smith (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) recorded two stolen bases.
  • Alayla Thornton (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) finished 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Callie Warlow (Le Roy, Ill./Le Roy) added a hit and drew a walk.
  • Alyssa Bundren (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) struck out two over 3 2/3 innings pitched.

GAME 2 – Fontbonne 9, Eureka 0 (5 Innings)

In Game 2, Fontbonne once again wasted no time getting on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning, keyed by a two-RBI double from Alonzo.

Fontbonne padded their lead with another four-run frame in the third, featuring a two-RBI single from Ibarra and a two-RBI double from Paez. They added one more in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Alonzo to push the margin to 9-0.

The Red Devils managed two hits but were once again unable to break through against the Fontbonne pitching staff.

GAME NOTES

  • Lexi Liptak (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) went 1-for-1 and notched three assists in the field.
  • Isabel Ramirez (Tonopah, Ariz./Buckeye Union) threw four innings and recorded a strikeout.
