Eureka Falls Twice to Webster in SLIAC Play
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka softball team hosted Webster for a SLIAC doubleheader on Sunday, where the Red Devils fell by scores of 18-5 and 16-1.
GAME 1 – Webster 18, Eureka 5 (5 Innings)
The Red Devils came out strong in Game 1, grabbing an early lead. Chloe Smith (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) singled to the pitcher, and Ashlyn Voyles (Farmer City, Ill./Farmer City) followed with a double down the left-field line to bring Smith home. Delaney Douglas (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) added another double to score Voyles, and Bre Dixon (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) doubled to drive in Douglas, giving Eureka a 3–0 lead after one.
Webster responded with a big second inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Hale after two batters were hit by pitches.
The Gorloks seized control with a seven-run third inning, stringing together several singles and a two-RBI double from Chandler. Eureka answered back with two runs of their own as Alayla Thornton (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) and Dixon crossed the plate, cutting the deficit to 11–5.
Webster tacked on two more runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to pull away for the 18–5 win.
GAME NOTES
- Delaney Douglas recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
- Ashlyn Voyles tallied two doubles and an RBI.
- Alyssa Bundren (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) pitched a complete game, striking out one over five innings.
GAME 2 – Webster 16, Eureka 1 (5 Innings)
In Game 2, both teams were scoreless through the first inning, although the Red Devils left three runners on base after Ashlyn Voyles singled and advanced to third.
Webster took command in the second, erupting for eight runs on six hits, helped by a two-RBI single from Work and a two-RBI hit from Stichling.
Eureka answered in the bottom half when Bre Dixon tripled to right field and came home on a sacrifice bunt by Lexi Liptak (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) to make it 8–1.
The Gorloks continued their offensive surge, scoring five runs in the third inning behind Stichling's double and Schotz's two-run homer. Three more runs came across in the fourth to stretch the lead to 16–1.
Both teams managed hits in the fifth, but neither scored, closing out the game at 16-1.
GAME NOTES
- Bre Dixon went 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.
- Ashlyn Voyles and Bria Wessel (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) each added a hit.
- Isabel Ramirez (Tonopah, Ariz./Buckeye Union) and Jeri Bradford (Homewood, Ill./Chicago Christian) combined for five innings in the circle.
