Eureka Softball Closes 2025 Season on Senior Day

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka softball team concluded its 2025 season on Sunday with a senior day doubleheader against Westminster at Sweitzer Field.

Before the games, the Red Devils honored their six seniors — Klaire Morris (Billings, Mont./Billings Skyview), Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan), Jeri Bradford (Homewood, Ill./Chicago Christian), Mackenzie Daniels (Monticello, Ill./Monticello), Bria Wessel (Peoria, Ill./Limestone), and Delaney Douglas (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) — celebrating their contributions to the program with teammates, family, and fans in attendance.

GAME 1 – Westminster 20, Eureka 2 (5 Innings)

Westminster took control early and didn't let up in Game 1, defeating Eureka 20-2 behind a 10-run fifth inning.

The Blue Jays plated a run in the second and added three more in the third to take a 4–0 lead. They extended the gap with a six-run fourth, but the Red Devils showed life in the bottom half. Bria Wessel singled and later scored, while Mackenzie Daniels drew a walk to help set the table. Klaire Morris came through with a two-RBI single, driving in Wessel and pinch-runner Chloe Smith (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan), making it 10–2.

Westminster responded by piling on 10 more runs in the fifth. Douglas reached base in the bottom half, but Eureka was unable to add to its total.

Douglas led the offense with a hit and a walk. Morris finished with a team-high two RBIs on her single. Wessel added a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base. On the mound, Alyssa Bundren (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) tossed 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits.

GAME NOTES

GAME 2 – Westminster 7, Eureka 4

Game 2 featured a strong showing from Eureka, but a six-run sixth inning by Westminster proved the difference in a 7-4 loss.

Westminster took a 1–0 lead in the second, but Eureka tied it in the bottom half when Danika Apostolovich (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) singled, stole second, and came around to score on a base hit by Chloe Smith.

The Red Devils took the lead in the fourth after Bre Dixon (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) singled, swiped two bases, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Morris. In the fifth, Ashlyn Voyles (Farmer City, Ill./Farmer City), appearing in her 100th career game as a Red Devil, led off with a double. She advanced on a single from Wessel and scored on a fielder's choice by Dixon to make it 3–1.

Westminster rallied in the sixth, scoring six runs on four hits, including a two-RBI double from Bedsworth. In the bottom half, Smith drew a walk and was driven in by a pinch-hit double from Douglas, cutting the deficit to 7-4.

Eureka was held off the board in the seventh, ending the game in a 7-4 defeat for the Red Devils in their season finale.

Smith paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Voyles was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Douglas delivered an RBI double in a pinch-hitting role, and Dixon contributed on the basepaths with three stolen bases, a run, and an RBI.
