Eureka Falls at Home to Millikin

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive rhythm on Tuesday afternoon as it fell 85-25 at home to Millikin.

Millikin opened the game with a 4-0 lead, scoring all four points at the free throw line. Eureka was held scoreless early before Courtney Hart (Lancaster, Calif./Yosemite) broke through with a layup four minutes into the first quarter to make it 4-2. The Big Blue quickly responded, however, using a 17-0 run to extend its lead to 21-2. Miracle Armstrong (Chicago, Ill./Wendell Phillips) ended the Red Devils' scoring drought with a free throw in the final minute, but Millikin closed the opening quarter ahead 24-3.

Armstrong opened the second quarter with another free throw, cutting the deficit to 24-4. After five straight points from Millikin, Hart added her second basket of the game to make it 29-6. Millikin pushed its lead to 33-6 before Eureka found a spark from beyond the arc, as Kayla Collins (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Christian) and Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) each knocked down three-pointers to trim the margin to 35-12. Millikin finished the half on an 8-1 run, taking a 43-13 advantage into the break.

The momentum stayed with the visitors to start the third quarter, as Millikin opened with a 7-0 run to make it 50-13. A jumper from Abigail Martinez (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) and a three-pointer by Collins cut the deficit to 50-18, but Millikin closed the quarter strong and carried a 65-23 lead into the final period.

Millikin continued to control the game in the fourth quarter, pulling away to secure the 85-25 victory.

Collins led the Red Devils with six points. Garcia-Reisch followed with five points and a team-high five steals, while Armstrong also finished with five points. Hart contributed four points and a team-best seven rebounds, and Railynn Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) added three points to round out the scoring for Eureka.
