Men’s Wrestling Kicks Off Season at Jim Fox Invite
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Eureka men's wrestling team kicked off its 2025-26 campaign at the Jim Fox Invite on Saturday, taking a young lineup into its first competition of the season and coming away with several strong showings and valuable early-season experience.
The Red Devils featured multiple newcomers across nearly every weight class, and several wrestlers turned in top-eight performances. Leading the way were Tristan Mosack (133 pounds), William Tucker (149), and Weston Swise (285), who each earned fifth-place finishes.
Mosack impressed in his collegiate debut, going 3-2 on the day. After earning a first-round bye, he opened with a win by fall in just one minute, then battled through a long bracket with wins by forfeit and medical forfeit to close out the day in fifth place.
Tucker also made a statement at 149 pounds, posting three wins, including a pair of wins by major decision (14-3, 18-7) and a win by fall in 2:09. He narrowly missed a spot in the top four after dropping a hard-fought 10-9 decision in his final bout.
At 285, Swise provided a strong showing of his own, recording two wins by fall on the day. After an opening-round loss, he stormed back with pins in 1:18 and 1:04 to claim fifth and cap a strong performance.
Eureka added three more placers in Alex Muhammed (157), Jaydon Fisher (174), and Jeremiah Crisp (149), who all earned eighth-place finishes. Muhammed started strong with a win by fall (1:29) after receiving an opening bye.
Josiah Morones (184) added a seventh-place finish, advancing through his bracket with an opening round bye before dropping his next two bouts by tech fall.
Other Red Devils also gained valuable mat time, including Caleb Ohnesorge (165), who notched a quick fall in 57 seconds, and Sargent Maubach (174), who opened with an 8-2 decision before dropping his next two matches. Patrick Fields (197), Landyn Williams (174), Jeremiah Robertson (165), and Tanner Finin (141) also saw their first action of the season.
Head coach Eric Biehl said the tournament was an important opportunity for the young Red Devils to get live competition early in the year.
"As a whole, the team looked good for how early in the year we are," Biehl said. "We have a great group of hard-working athletes, and I'm excited to see how our coaching staff develops them."
Eureka used the tournament as an early test to gauge progress and identify areas for growth before heading into the heart of the 2025-26 campaign.
