Smith, Finin Lead Eureka at Dr. Tom Smith Open

CREVE COEUR, Mo. – The Eureka men's wrestling team returned to action on Sunday, competing at the Dr. Tom Smith Open hosted by Missouri Baptist after nearly a month away from competition. The Red Devils faced a tough field as they continued to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.

Isaac Smith led the way for Eureka with a strong performance at 125 pounds, earning a third-place finish. Smith opened his day with a pin in 1:28 before suffering a setback via tech fall (6:34). He responded impressively with back-to-back wins by fall, recording pins in 3:33 and 3:51 to secure his spot on the podium.

Tanner Finin also put together a solid run at 149 pounds, finishing fourth overall. After dropping his opening match by decision, 10-5, Finin rattled off three consecutive victories, including a pin in 4:56, a tech fall in 1:28, and a dominant major decision, 18-4. His tournament came to a close with a loss by fall (3:29) in the placement bout.

At 174 pounds, Jaydon Fisher battled through a challenging bracket, picking up a tech fall victory (5:55) between losses by fall. Tristan Mosack competed at 133 pounds, earning a pin in 4:14 after opening with a loss by fall and later closing his day with another fall loss. Colton Davis represented Eureka at 141 pounds, recording a win by medical forfeit between two losses by fall.

Head coach Eric Biehl viewed the tournament as a valuable step forward for his squad as competition ramps back up.

"This was a good tournament coming back from not competing in almost a month," Biehl said. "Tanner has been consistent all year and continued that today. Isaac also had a great showing, placing third today. We have to get in better shape as we prepare for the second half of our season."

Eureka continues to use these tournaments to sharpen its approach and identify areas for improvement as the calendar turns toward the heart of the season.
