Madison Shines Earns First SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award

EUREKA – For the first time of her career, Madison Shines (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

The junior forward took home the weekly honor on Monday after notching a five-goal week. She scored four in Eureka's 6-0 win over Defiance on Sunday, recording a hat trick by halftime and adding a fourth goal early in the second.

Shines notched only the seventh four-goal game in program history. She became the fifth Red Devil to score four goals and first since Kesli Blankenship's six against Iowa Wesleyan on Oct. 16, 2013. She also recorded the 15th hat trick in program history.

On Thursday, she scored the first goal of the match in a 3-2 loss against Rockford.

Shines now has five goals on the season and 14 in her career, putting her fifth in program history. She is the Red Devils' first SLIAC Player of the Week recipient of the season.

Eureka (1-2) opens SLIAC play on Wednesday at Blackburn (0-2) at 3 p.m.
