ANKENY, Iowa – The Eureka women's soccer team fell 4-1 on the road to Faith Baptist on Tuesday afternoon, as three first half goals by the Eagles proved too much to overcome for the Red Devils.
Faith Baptist opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Jordyn Frerichs finished off an assist from Emma Boldt. Eureka responded with a series of chances, including multiple attempts by Daphne Collette (Murray, Utah/Murray), but each was turned away by the goalkeeper. Faith Baptist continued to build momentum, adding goals from Eliana Fritz and Boldt to carry a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Red Devils came out strong to start the second half. In the 46th minute, freshman Ella Mohebbi (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, trimming the deficit to 3-1. Eureka pressed forward looking to get another goal back and had good chances, including shots from Mohebbi, Collette, and Brianna Murphy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Powers Catholic), but the Eagles' goalkeeper stood firm and held Eureka to a single goal.
Fritz added her second goal of the night for Faith Baptist in the 65th minute, extending the lead to 4-1 and ending Eureka's comeback hopes.
Mohebbi finished with one goal and three shots on goal, while Collette led the team with five total shots, including three on target. Goalkeeper Naitzy Garcia (Mendota, Ill./Mendota) recorded two saves in a full 90 minutes of action.
