Eureka’s Home Winning Streak Ends in Loss to Concordia Chicago
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's volleyball team saw its perfect home record come to an end on Wednesday night, falling to Concordia Chicago in four sets.
The Red Devils opened the first set with early momentum, including a kill from Kaitlyn Robinson (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) and a service ace by Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community). However, Concordia responded with a strong run, capitalizing on Eureka errors and service aces to take the first set 25-18.
In the second set, Eureka again started strong, highlighted by a service ace and kill from Company. Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) added two aces during a brief rally, but Concordia's consistent attack and Eureka's miscues allowed the Cougars to secure another 25-18 win.
Eureka found its rhythm in the third set. Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Company led the charge with key kills, while Maleaha Nagel (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) delivered three consecutive service aces to help the Red Devils build a lead. Concordia's late push was not enough, and Eureka closed out the set 25-19.
The fourth set was tightly contested, featuring seven ties and multiple lead changes. Shell and Frannie Heckman (Benson, Ill./Roanoke-Benson) contributed kills, and Robinson added assists to keep Eureka in the match. However, Concordia's late surge, sealed the match with a 25-17 win.
Company led Eureka with 9 kills and 4 service aces. Robinson dished out 13 assists and added 9 digs. Shell contributed 3 kills and 8 digs, while Nagel recorded 3 blocks and 3 aces. Liaromatis added a career-high 5 service aces and 12 digs.
