Red Devils Bounce Back With Road Win at Dominican
RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Eureka women's volleyball team got back in the win column Tuesday night, rallying from a set down to defeat Dominican in four sets.
Dominican (1-10, 0-1 NACC) edged out a tightly contested first set, 25-23, despite an early lead from the Red Devils.
Eureka (4-9, 0-4 SLIAC) quickly flipped the momentum in the second set. Behind efficient hitting from Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola) and Colbie Grieff (South Wilmington, Ill./Gardner South-Wilmington), the Red Devils took a commanding lead and evened the match with a convincing 25-15 win.
The Red Devils continued to build separation in the third set. With the score tied at 12-12, Eureka pieced together an 8-2 scoring run behind kills from Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) and Brooklyn Shell (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community). Despite a late comeback effort by Dominican, Eureka held on to win the set 25-19.
In the fourth, Eureka raced out early 10-4 lead and never looked back. Late kills by Company and Grieff helped Eureka close the door in the final frame and secure a 25-17 win to seal the victory for the Red Devils.
Company paced the offense with a team-high 15 kills and added 15 digs. Gauna was efficient at the net with 11 kills on a .625 hitting percentage, while Grieff hit .615 with eight kills. Cloee O'Donoghue (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) anchored the back row with a career-high 17 digs, while Bre Dixon (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) directed the offense with 26 assists.
