Red Devils Roll Past Beloit in Straight Sets

BELOIT, Wis. – The Eureka women's volleyball team made quick work of Beloit on Tuesday night, sweeping the Buccaneers in straight sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-21) to pick up a road win.

The Red Devils came out strong in the opening set, jumping ahead 6-1 behind early kills from Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) and Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola). Eureka capitalized on Beloit miscues to extend its lead and never trailed, closing the opening frame 25-16.

In the second set, Eureka carried that momentum forward with a dominant stretch from the service line. Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) recorded an ace to extend Eureka's early lead to 10-2. Hallee Gauna and Maleaha Nagel (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) each tallied multiple kills, while Colbie Grieff (South Wilmington, Ill./Gardner South-Wilmington) added an ace to help Eureka cruise to a 25-13 victory in the second set.

Beloit put up a tougher fight in the third, forcing eight ties and six lead changes early in the set, but Eureka pulled away late. Kills from Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Maleaha Nagel stretched the Red Devils' lead, and late kills by Grieff and Shell, followed by a Beloit attack error, secured the 25-21 win and the sweep for Eureka.

Eureka hit .235 as a team while holding Beloit to -.043. Company led the way with eight kills and 16 digs, while Gauna added eight kills and three blocks with a .533 hitting percentage. Shell finished with seven kills and two aces, and Bre Dixon (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) distributed 18 assists. Liaromatis and Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) chipped in 10 digs apiece, with Liaromatis also serving two aces.
