Red Devils Fall to Greenville in Dig Pink Match
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's volleyball team couldn't keep pace with Greenville on Wednesday night, falling in straight sets 25-13, 25-23, 25-18.
The evening also marked Eureka's Dig Pink match, as the Red Devils partnered with the Side-Out Foundation to raise awareness for metastatic breast cancer research. Fans filled the stands in pink to show their support for the cause and the team.
After a slow start in the opening set, the Red Devils found their rhythm in the second, trading points with the Panthers in a tightly contested frame. Eureka rallied from a 19-11 deficit to take a 22-21 lead in the set behind a serving run from senior Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon), but Greenville held off the surge to take a two-set lead. The Red Devils again showed fight in the third, staying within striking distance before the Panthers pulled away late to secure the sweep.
Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) led Eureka's attack with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage, while Bre Dixon (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) added three kills, 11 assists, and nine digs. Shell tallied three kills and two aces, and Maleaha Nagel (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) contributed five kills on .300 hitting. Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) anchored the back row with 10 digs, and Kaitlyn Robinson (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) finished with 11 assists and eight digs.

The Red Devils will have a week off before returning home for their season finale on Thursday, Nov. 6, when they host Webster at 7 p.m. The match will also serve as Senior Day, honoring Brooklyn Shell, Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan), Frannie Heckman (Benson, Ill./Roanoke-Benson), and Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola) for their contributions to the program.
