Red Devils Rally Past Webster on Senior Night

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's volleyball team closed out its home slate in style Thursday night, rallying past Webster in four sets to secure a 3-1 victory on Senior Night. The win marked just the second in program history over the Gorloks, both coming in the past two seasons.

After dropping the opening set 25-12, the Red Devils found themselves trailing 23-18 in the second frame. Refusing to fold, Eureka surged back with an 8-1 run to level the match, highlighted by Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) scoring three of the final five points with two kills and a block.

The third set saw another dramatic rally. Down 24-19, Eureka rattled off seven straight points to steal the set 26-24. Colbie Grieff (South Wilmington, Ill./Gardner South-Wilmington) and Company were instrumental in the comeback, combining for four of the final six points with two kills apiece. In the fourth and final set, both teams traded blows in a tightly contested battle. With the score at 24-23, senior Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola) fittingly delivered the match-winning kill to seal the victory for Eureka on Senior Night.

Eureka was led by Company, who delivered a standout performance with 12 kills, two service aces, two blocks, and a .290 hitting percentage. Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) anchored the defense with 15 digs and added an ace, while Kaitlyn Robinson (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) and Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) tallied 16 and 14 assists respectively, each also contributing a service ace. Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) added seven kills and six digs. Hallee Gauna chipped in five kills and a block, including the match-winning point.

Prior to the match, Eureka honored seniors Brooklyn Shell, Claire Schaffner, Frannie Heckman (Benson, Ill./Roanoke-Benson), and Hallee Gauna for their contributions to the Eureka women's volleyball program.
