Four Interceptions Highlight Eureka Effort in Loss to CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – The Eureka football team wrapped up its 2025 season on Saturday with a road test against NACC champion Concordia Wisconsin, falling 35-0. The Red Devils' defense produced four takeaways to keep the Falcons in check early, but CUW's explosive ground game ultimately proved decisive.

Concordia Wisconsin opened with a lengthy drive before Quvione Mitchell (Chicago, Ill./CICS Longwood) intercepted a pass in the end zone for his first pick of the season. After a turnover on downs gave CUW prime field position, Derrick Payton Jr. (West Seattle, Wash./O'Dea) batted a pass that Chuck Weathersby (Kankakee, Ill./Kankakee) hauled in for another end zone interception to keep it scoreless.

The Falcons broke through late in the first quarter on a 48-yard touchdown run by Jack Bradley. CUW extended its lead in the second quarter with an Ashar Thomas 1-yard score, then capitalized on a pick-six to make it 21-0. Bradley added a 26-yard touchdown run before halftime for a 28-0 advantage.

Eureka's best scoring chance came early in the third quarter after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty set them up with solid field position, but the drive stalled inside the CUW 20. The Falcons answered with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Bradley for the game's final score.

Despite the loss, Eureka's defense delivered standout moments. Mitchell, Weathersby, Christopher Walker (Miami, Fla./Carol City), and Jovon Gibson (Statesboro, Ga./Statesboro) each recorded interceptions, while Weathersby also forced a fumble recovered by Gibson. Payton Jr. led the front with two tackles for loss and a pass breakup, and Will Watkins (Flint, Mich./Davison) paced the team with 10 tackles.

Offensively, Ethan Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./Prosser) finished 7-for-15 for 36 yards, while Christian Noel (Prairieville, La./Ascension) added 9 yards through the air. Nathan Barrett (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) led receivers with 20 yards on three catches, and DeVayne Isom (Hawthorne, Nev./Mineral County) added five receptions for 15 yards. Brandon Garner (Jonesboro, Ark./Jonesboro) topped the rushing attack with 21 yards.

Eureka was limited to 85 total yards (41 rushing, 44 passing), while CUW rolled up 431 yards behind Bradley's 165 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.
